Abingdon United   0  Cinderford Town    2

Despite competing well once again, Abingdon went down to their third defeat in a row.

They nearly gave a goal away within five minutes as a back pass was allowed to roll slowly to Jody Bevan but as he went to shoot, Lee Farrow stood tall and the striker shot way over the bar.

Few chances were created for the next 20 minutes but one was when Tom Austin went past his man and laid the ball into the run of Billy Beechers who saw his drive was well taken by Matt Bath.

Bevan had another effort wide then Abingdon kept testing the visitors defence with Austin getting behind the reargurard time and again but United couldn’t turn it into scoring opportunities.

The second half started badly as within 3 minutes, Jody Bevan let fly from 15 yards and the ball whistled into the far side of the goal.  Soon after Scott Griffin hit a ball low which everyone left and it slowly drifted through and hit the post and came out.

Town were getting more of the possession and the pressure ended as a high ball was put into the area, with a push by Tom Franklin on one of their strikers.  Referee Paul Redmond awarded a penalty without hesitation. Lee Farrow made a superb save to his right to keep the penalty out and Abingdon in the game.

This boosted the home side and a good combination between Billy Beechers and Anaclet Odhiambo ended with Odhiambo having his shot finger tipped over the bar.

Soon after a fierce drive hit a defenders hand but play was waved on despite loud appeals for a penalty.   Then Beechers fought his way between two defenders but let himself down with wayward finishing.

Just after the hour Abingdon should have got level as a quick corner had Micheas Herbert all alone beyond the far post but he hit the ball down and it bounced up into the arms of a surprised Bath.

A minute later and Lee Farrow came for a free kick but misjudged it and Jody Bevn got his head on it first and directed the ball into the open goal.

United couldn’t find a way through and the game ended on a sour note with a minute to go, a fierce tackle by Julian McCalmon took the ball and then the player.  Instead of leaving it for the referee some Town players rushed in and after a bit of a scrabble, home player Billy Beechers and visiting Tom Davies received red cards for throwing a punch each.
